It depends on the program. IIT technical programs (IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, IIT Madras Advanced DS) require comfort with basic programming and mathematics. IIT Bombay's AI for Business Managers and IIM programs are designed for non-technical professionals — no coding background required. Check the specific program's eligibility section.

For career advancement in India specifically — yes. An IIT certificate carries institutional credibility that platform certificates (Coursera, Udemy, even Google) do not in most Indian corporate environments. The peer cohort, live faculty interaction, campus module and alumni network are also meaningfully different. For pure knowledge acquisition, online platforms are fine. For career positioning, IIT/IIM credentials have a clear edge.

Three programs are specifically designed for non-technical professionals: (1) IIT Bombay AI for Business Managers — GenAI strategy and enterprise AI adoption; (2) IIM Kozhikode Applied Analytics & GenAI — business decision-making with data; (3) IIM Indore AI & Cybersecurity — AI strategy with a security focus. None of these require programming experience.

Each IIT has a distinct focus. IIT Madras (IITM Pravartak) has the strongest deep learning and GenAI research base. IIT Delhi's program is mathematics-heavy — strong for those who want rigorous ML foundations. IIT Roorkee's program is the most practical with 2 campus immersions. IIT Bombay's program is uniquely suited for business managers. The "best" depends entirely on your background and goal.

All programs use live online sessions — typically on Saturday and Sunday, 3–5 hours per day. Recordings are available for replay. Most programs include 1–2 campus immersion modules at the IIT campus (2–5 days each), which are scheduled with advance notice. You attend from your home or office for weekly sessions.
